We have been going to Thailand’s Koh Phangan Island for over 20 years. We have been to over 50 countries in the world, and Thailand remains our all-time favourite. Along with Australia and New Zealand, we consider it one of our homes. This post is about what to do in Koh Phangan and the reasons to go to Koh Phangan now.
Many travellers don’t realise that things change, places change, and even you change. And 20 years later, you will no longer be that good-looking skinny backpacker that can dance on tables after having knocked back 10 pints of beer (without falling).
Twenty years later, island paradises don’t stay the same. They too mature, develop, age and grow.
We have been to Thailand’s islands 17 times since 2006. People have said to us, “Oh! You could have been to Mexico,” or Costa Rica, or some other place that they had just been to for their holidays. They ask us why we don’t go somewhere new. And they don’t understand why we always choose to go to Thailand’s islands. It’s a good question. So we’ve written this post to let you know the reasons to visit Thailand and why you should go to Thailand’s islands on your next trip too!
We first visited Koh Tao, Thailand in 2007. We found a backpacker paradise lined with bungalows on the beach. Back then, luxury resorts were minimal, the roads were uncrowded, and everything was so much cheaper.
Greetings from Southern Thailand, we are going to be kicking back here slow travel for the next few months. As it’s the Tropics, anything can happen! And the problem with finding a Tropical Paradise? We never want to leave!
